Final Fantasy XIII has sold more than one million copies since debuting in Japan last week.

According to Kotaku, the latest in the Final Fantasy series, which was released in Japan on Thursday, sold approximately 1.1 million copies within 24 hours.

The figures did not take into account copies sold as part of the Final Fantasy PS3 'Lightning Edition'.

Square Enix is said to have shipped two million copies of the game to retailers.

Final Fantasy XIII is due to be released in the West on the PS3 and 360 on March 9.
